Winter Wardrobe Color Palettes

In winter, planning wardrobe colors is a piece of cake because your surrounding environment is going to be pretty neutral.... mainly white because of the snow and brown because of bare trees. From pastels to bright colors, and deep, rich tones, just about anything goes. The biggest thing to keep in mind is if there are surrounding structures or props that will be present in your photos. You definitely don't want to conflict with what's around you. For example, you wouldn't want to choose bright colors such as hot pink or purple if there is a red barn in your background. It just doesn't work together. You also don't want to blend into your surroundings, so you'll want to avoid wearing white at this time of year. Below are a few of my favorite color combinations for the season of winter that will make your portraits POP! These palettes should give you a great starting point for planning your wardrobes!

Pick one palette and then pick 3-4 colors from that palette to plan your outfits. Denim and khaki pair wonderfully with any of those colors.

Feel free to add plaids or other simple patterns in, but keep patterns limited to 25%-50% of family members (EX. 2 family members' outfits, for a family of 4). Layers always look great. Wearing a hat, scarf, and/or vest always look great in portraits, as would a sweater with a flannel poking out from underneath.
